If the driver makes a mistake it is quick to recalculate and redirect you. I was a little worried when it said "refurbished" but believe me when I say there is NOTHING wrong with these devices. They are accurate and efficient. Some GPSs are said to take people in strange round-about directions to get places but this one does a nice job using common sense routes to get from place to place efficiently. As a side note, its humorous when the machine mis-pronounces a street name (it displays the name on the screen too so you aren't going to get lost because of it).
This is my first GPS, but it works wonderfully for a low price. I find in my Honda s2000 that the speed tracking on the GPS is 1 mph off usually, but if I have the clutch pushed in on my manual its dead on the speed I am going.
Needed a basic feature gps for a trip to California. In the past, I had borrowed a friends "magellan" that sells for twice the price; yes, the magellan has a few more features, but for the price, this unit did everything I needed and more. With the free updates on this model, it won't kill you in maintenance costs either.
In over 3,200 miles on my trip, it only faltered once in the middle-of-nowhere Illinois, where a highway had recently been changed and improved. I do have a few general thoughts though:1. The unit came with all accessories and was nicely packaged, just as a new item would. The mute option is invaluable, as all of the voices become annoying after a while when they repeatedly announce "Recalculating.Recalculating.Recalculating".4.
You will not be disappointed. I recently took a half cross-country trip from Upstate New York to Lake Of The Ozarks in Missouri, and decided before the trip to purchase a GPS to lead the way.I could not be more pleased with this unit. It did not effect my driving, but it was funny to see the car icon spin around in circles. in a city and drive to that location instead. The wide screen of this GPS isn't quite as useful as I imagined before I bought it, mainly for the fact that when you're driving and using it, you're more interested in what is ahead, not what is on the sides.
You can purchase up to date maps from the Garmin website, and included is a 10% off coupon, but even then they are still expensive (almost as much as the unit itself).3. This is useful for when you just want to "wing-it" on a trip, with no particular destination in mind. All that said, I would definitely buy this product again. Amazon shipped this out quickly using two day shipping through Amazon Prime, so I was able to have it the day before my trip.If you're thinking of buying this GPS unit, go for it. Entering addresses is straightforward. For that reason I probably would have bought the non-wide screen version, the Garmin nüvi 260 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished), to save a little money.
This unit is just as tall, and text and navigation readability should be the same.2. If you don't have a specific address to go to, you can search for "Attractions" (museums, restaurants, hotels, gas stations, etc). I can't believe I traveled so much without one.
The 260w is so simple to used. I've used the Nuvi a few times since I received it. You really don't need the extra bells and whistles in the more expensive models. This refurbished unit works as advertised. Customer support was helpful in getting the unit re-registered into my name. The street name anouncement feature is perfect. I highly recommend it.
